High speed Palermo-Catania, Marano (M5s): “Pnrr funds lost, clarity on responsibilities”

The regional deputy and vice-president of the Territory, Environment and Mobility commission at the ARS intervenes on the delays in the construction of the two lots that will cause the reprogramming of the works on other funds.
"From high speed to high incapacity was a moment. Due to the delays in the construction of two lots of the Palermo-Catania railway line, in fact, the works cannot be completed respecting the deadlines set by the PNRR. Thus, a very important opportunity to exploit the PNRR funding to improve the deficient infrastructures of Sicily has disappeared and the Sicilian citizens will pay the price, who not only will not see the completion of the work by 2026, as had been planned, but now we will have to draw on alternative funds for its construction, penalizing other works".
This is according to Jose Marano, regional deputy of the Five Star Movement and vice president of the Territory, Environment and Mobility commission of the Sicilian Regional Assembly.
“We ask for clarity on the responsibilities – continues the regional parliamentarian – We are not very convinced by the alleged reasons that would have caused the delays and that have been reported by the press, namely the drought and the lack of specialized manpower. We are certainly faced with an unbearable mockery. It is not with this approximate, botched and failed management that the right to mobility will be guaranteed to Sicilians”.
“The regional government – concludes Marano – should have a surge of dignity and take immediate action in the interest of the Sicilians so that clarity is also made on the reprogramming of funds because it will be necessary to understand which projects were intended for the resources that will now have to go to guarantee the completion of the Palermo-Catania. An enormous damage to the community for which someone will necessarily have to answer”.
